What I'm Wearing Wednesday

Today is grey. Infact on my drive in from work it was raining. So to brighten up my day I wanted a pin with sparkles. I think I may turn it into a headband, ponytail adornment.

I do not know if it's modern and it's not signed but it is quite top heavy and not flat as you can see below. So the problem is when you pin it onto your lapel it flops forward. Boo.

Merry Christmas

Passing on the What I'm Wearing Wednesday to say Merry Christmas! The black pin is a Weiss knock off. I picked it up at the swap meet as it was to neat to pass up and the price was right.

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

Go Fly a Kite!
Just having some fun here. This is my latest acquisition from a swap meet. It's a Renoir Matisse Kite pin with a red tone with some yellow over the copper. Whimsical and fun. Looks like it also comes in blue, image below.

A Trifari Christmas

So on some down time I started to look for ads that name and show different pieces. Really I was searching to see if I could find an ad concerning a Monet necklace I have.

I then thought why not show some Christmas ads like the above picture. This Trifari ad was from the 1960. It also looks like she's wearing a brooch in her hair too.

Imagine my surprise when I saw the following ad another for Christmas and saw the necklace I bought at a thrift store for about 5 bucks. Most kids these days want to wear the cheap junk so this necklace was passed by. But now I know what the earrings and the brooch look like that go with this necklace.

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

I went for the black on black today for no other reason except I was tired and couldn't pull off anything fancy this morning. This is a 1928 necklace I bought on sale at a store this last year.

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

Sometimes you have to wonder what type of sense of humor designers have. The copper necklace and earrings I'm wearing are of course my favorite designer Renoir and are called "Swiss Cheese"

Now I didn't like Swiss Cheese when I was a child, but I do as an adult! Not only the food but the jewelry too!

Cornucopia - Belated Thanksgiving Post

I'm thankful for my family, friends and the fact that I have the freedom to even post in a blog.

Ok and the abundance of food set on our table.

But what to wear on Thanksgiving I simply do not want or have a Turkey brooch. Then it hit me a Cornucopia. Next year That will be perfect. Of course the selection is quite grand and not the Hallmark pin of the 70's - 80's:

But these are nice vintage pieces:

Of course the jellybelly Coro pin is only around $950-to $1,275 on Ebay right now and the Trifari who knows but hey I still think they are pretty!

and last here is a little parting info.

The cornucopia (Latin: Cornu Copiae) is a symbol of food and abundance dating back to the 5th century BC, also referred to as the food of worship and holiness, Horn of Amalthea, harvest cone, and horn of plenty.

Reading is important!

Funny how things happen in cycles. Up until 7th grade I didn't have glasses I couldn't see far away. I probably needed them before then. Then in my late twenties I got lasic done and suddenly I didn't need glasses/contacts anymore. Suddenly at age 41, and it was sudden I couldn't read ingredient on some boxes, couldn't see the brooch clasp as I tried to pin it on my coat collar. Reading any type of book suddenly became tiring. And so with grace (inside grumping and complaints) I went to the eye doctor and confirmed I needed eye glasses for close up.

Fine glasses to me really shows a person own style. Rarely does one go out and buy glasses with frames that make them look completely silly and retarded (exception Edna Dame, Carrie Donovan). Yes some people buy into the latest shape trend but they still pick out their own color.

And so without further ado my modern/classic reading glasses. Oh and yes it has little rhinestones along the side so there the jewelry part.

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

What you are looking at is my small collection of Rutilated Quartz. The necklace was the first piece I got and I always thought it was pretty with the gold bars in it. The rings followed sometime later.

Rutilated quartz is found in Australia, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Madagascar, Norway, Pakistan and the United States.

It's a good thing I don't have to travel abroad to get these! Here another couple of interesting facts about this stone.

Rutilated quartz has been referred to as Cupid's darts, Venus hair stone and Fleches d'amour.

Folklore: Rutilated quartz is said to slow down the aging process and is said to be a strong healer.

Slow down the aging process. Well if that's the case perhaps I'll wear these more often. Plus I've started back at the gym perhaps it can help heal my sore muscles too!

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

Yey more sparkles! I got this necklace from ebay, it is vintage and by Coro. I choose black because I wear allot of black. Probably a left over of my Goth days in the 80's. But this necklace has lots of confetti in green and pink hues. So I get a little bit of color mixed in. Having just got back from camping in the desert I'm feeling pretty relaxed, my not so thrilled look is having to work on a multi tab excel form that I've been working on for several days.

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

These are modern red glass swirled bulbs. I loved the crimson color.

A friend commented it reminded her of glass lamps from the 70's doing a quick search finding Murano glass lamps from the 50's and 60's perhaps they created them in the 70's but I'm thinking more along the lines that people do not replace their lamps very often. As a kid these may have well been in your home in the 70's or a different color.

For a bit of a modern remake I found the following lamps at Niche Modern

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

This is my newest confetti collection piece. Pink. I've enjoyed pink every now and then growing up to wear but in truth I think the last time may have been in the 80's and it was a day glo sweatshirt and this lipstick called Moonglow. Which would be atrocious to wear now as it was baby pink with a blue shimmer to it.

I find it better just to wear this necklace as a compliment to the sweater.

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

I can across this adorable little pin on Ebay. Here how I came by it. I've started reading again which I love to do and choose Dark Angels taking place in the Restoration court of England's King Charles II by Karleen Koen. A prequel to another book I've read by her.

So I start looking for vintage jewelry on Ebay. Not having the funds for anything that old, I started moving forward in time to Victorian and came across this pin. Now it seems to be plastic it could be bakalite and it's not that old, I simply don't know, the pin however was too cute to pass by and so today wanting to wear it it ended up in my hair.

Remember I've said before why not wear a pin or brooch in your hair. And so that's what I did. Oh and it's rediculiously hard to take a picture with your iPhone, holding it behind your back not knowing if you succeded in getting anything.

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

All I have on is my wedding band for jewelry it was a running late and lazy day. So today's post instead will be about one of my favorite artists and one of my favorite lines of jewelry.

I've collected Patrick Nagel images since I got into Duran Duran in the 80's. For the images that Nagel did he did stay up on the current fashion and accessories during the 80's. He also passed away in that era and so I always ponder what his art would be like today.

I also know that his estate is going to be creating Patrick Nagel jewelry, luxury and fashion accessories brand to be released in early 2011. I hope it is not like the following with image. This is a scrabble tile made into a necklace currently on Ebay. This would be something you'd see in Forever 21 for the young crowd I'm guessing.

It's not something I would wear to work if it images like above. I can only hope that it more unique jewelry that the Nagel woman would wear. In the 80's she wore the following which was what everyone was wearing.

I do believe that if Nagel was alive today he would definitely like Kenneth Cole and his line of jewelry. Below is some current Kenneth Cole. Enjoy.

You can view Patrick Nagel offcial site at the following URL: http://www.patricknagel.com/

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

This is a Trifari bracelet. For me it's a cross between delicate with the patterned rope and strong with the geometric design. Which pretty much fits me today as I'm feeling a bit pulled in both directions. I blame the heat since it has been extremely warm this week and getting only a small amount of rest I'm all off balance. Ok... and last night a fellow friend had her goodbye send off as she is switching from Disney to OWN. And I had one of these:

Chocolate Martini
Which really got me thinking about brown colored jewelry. Brown is not my color but if I needed to wear brown what would I wear? So I pulled images together so you could see what I would wear to work if I owned any of these. I have been known to take fancy brooches and pin them into my hair as a barrette (french twist) or a fancy ponytail holder. FYI: hairspray before pinning so you don't get any hairspray onto the brooch.

Yes I'm Back

For the second year I brought and wore the following gold vintage necklace which is a Monet on this particular vacation. Doesn't it compliment my redness, darn the sun, at least I came home tan.

This is what I call a play piece. I found this at a antique mall for a extremely low price. It is not in mint condition. Allot of the gold has been worn off the chain and the tips of each point. But I love the collar effect and the flame type design.

A few helpful tips when wearing any costume jewelry perfume will erode the metal. Plus just the acidity of your skin but skin care products and such may also tamper with the metal overlay.

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

I realized as I grabbed a pair of silver hoops I'm wearing a top that has a copper color in it. A total non-match as I was driving to work.

This happens when your trying to wrap up work and go on vacation. A big vacation, where I will not be back until September.

On to September, back to school and fall then looms so as a I'll be back then here is a pin and earring set I will be wearing in the fall by Mattise and is vintage.

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

I would say this is one of my favorite sets, but every set is a favorite for me. Why is it before you go on vacation your work doubles? That of course leaves me enough time to snap a shot of what I'm wearing and get it up there but nothing more.

Enjoy. This is an Egyptian revival set. The necklace was my grandmothers and the bracelet I found on eBay. Oh new hair do coming soon.

What I'm wearing Wednesday

When you have the blah's try something different. Hence the black and white photo. I'm currently preparing for a very long vacation/trip. I look forward for the reset that will happen plus the time to think away from the norm.

In the meantime I'm wearing my comfort jewelry which usually is my copper pieces. This necklace is from my Renoir collection.

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

It a metal mix day with a dash of sparkle. A grey Silver mixed with Gold with tiny rhinestones. This fit perfectly with my working and all the responsibilities that go with the job to planning for my once a year very large vacation. In between there always dinner with friends and fun outings which makes life sparkle.

The necklace is Monet bought within the last two years.

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

Today was a day where I did not put on any jewelry. I've run around all over the place with no time to spare, not even for lunch. I did grab some gum which reminded me that there are days where I'm on the phone allot and when that happens the earrings I'm wearing come off. So below is the nice collection of earrings in my desk drawer because then I forget their in there. All earrings are modern unsigned.

What I'm wearing Wednesday

Today with just a t-shirt and jeans I'm wearing the staple of jewelry simple silver hoops.

We are in a heat wave and I found out yesterday that wearing heavy jewelry may not be wise as I drove home and sweated. Of course my concern would be any acidity that could eat away at the silver Monet necklace I was wearing.

I've also been watching season one of Mad Men and love seeing the jewelry that is picked out for the actresses to wear and how they wore the jewelry. This necklace would fit back in that time and probably was worn then as it is from my grandmother's collection.

What I'm wearng Wednesday

Today I'm wearing a bracelet because it makes a clank noises when the metal charms hit together and I feel like being noisy. This bracelet belonged to my grandmother. It is vintage and it is signed Mar with a few more letters I can't read and a copyright.

Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Fourth of July to everyone! Today is the celebration of the Independence of the American Colonies from Great Britain’s rule. I also consider it a great family and friend day. As we tend to gather with one or the other. With that in mind it is also a test for dieters as tables will be gloriously set with Potato Salad, Cole Slaw, Hamburgers, and Hot Dogs (speaking of, Hebrew Nation 97% fat free hot dogs rocks!)

With any type gathering the question what do I wear comes up. I have found I like to keep my holiday jewelry simple for day wear. Usually I pick one piece. Today I’m wearing the following necklace. On a whim I bought this in an antique shop and love the simplicity of it. I like to give the necklace a twist so the stands spiral.
