Cameo's and the Ladies Fan.

I know I said I would create a post about Cameo's after posting about Napoleons crown. However I think Carol does it better which you can read here at her blog: Collecting Vintage Jewelry.

I myself at one point considered collecting cameo's but I couldn't settle on what? Do I collect Shell, Lava, Amber? do I collect women portraits, or scenes? it was simply too much for me. As a collector, I start by getting anything and everything. Such as ladies fans, when I started to collect them. (seen below my small collection)

Until I suddenly hone down onto one particular trait. Such as the Celluloid fans. Sure one could say "but this is not Jewelry!" perhaps, is all I would say, yet Victorian ladies used fans to complete their outfits. Just as we put on earnings, a watch or necklace to complete ours.

TAG: Versatile Blog Award

Tracy of the blog Pop Trash Beauty tagged me for a Versatile Blogger award. I've been reading her blog for awhile now with delight. She is a very creative, informative lady with a dash of no nonsense thrown in for good measure.

Rules :

1. Post who gave you this award.
2. State 7 random facts.
3. Give this award to 15 other bloggers and notify them with a comment
Here my 7 facts, and yes you bet there going to be a cameo post coming up to go hand in hand with fact number one.

1. Napoleon’s coronation crown was decorated with cameos. He wore cameos frequently.
2. My birthday is on June 20th same day as John Taylor of Duran Duran.
3.  Cats are extremely sensitive to vibrations. Cats are said to detect earthquake tremors 10 or 15 minutes before humans can.
4. Although the Redwoods can reach heights of nearly 40 stories tall, their root systems are only 10 feet deep.
5.  When Clark Gable removed his shirt onscreen to reveal that he wasn’t wearing a vest, sales of vests dropped by 40 per cent.
6. I once rode a Orbitron at a bar in Oregon. (And I didn't throw up amazing!)
7. Growing up I became fascinated with Theda Bara. A silent screen star.I still hope that someday someone finds a lost film reel of her playing Cleopatra.

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

I got this at the swap meet mainly because I've always loved Garnets. I Didn't think it was vintage or real Garnets. But it was unusual that the clasp on it was a bit ornate. Turning it over I saw Goldette N.Y. but didn't recognize the name of the maker and shrugged it off as modern. It also has the C after the mark.

Upon digging online I found the following. Well now I know.

Goldette Costume Jewelry was the mark of Goldette for Ben Gartner who did business as the Circle Jewelry Co.,. They first used the mark of "goldette N.Y. in the fall of 1955, Most all attribute the start of Goldette in 1958 but some pieces have been dated as early as 1955 and carry the copy right (c), or the (R) for registered after the mark where later jewelry had the (c) before their mark and was used on a oval applied disc. Sometime during 1959 the mark was just "goldette" or "goldette" and they continued to use the mark into the 1960s, Goldette was used in script for most all jewelry items. They mainly produced jewelry designed in Victorian style in antiqued gold fashion or bright silver finish. Known for their large leaded glass sets and ornate metal work they would produce many items that have long since been discarded.

The Heart Day

Ah yes the dreaded V day, where even I wonder what to get my husband. However jewelry giving has been always, excuse the pun, a given on Valentine Day's. For those with expensive taste here an Ad for Tiffany in 1966.

You can see two of the pins in this ad below. They are in the lower left hand side.

But if your not into a heart shape you could always go with a pin that uses heart stones. Like the Coro pin seen below.

I myself will go with the following pendant and not a Pin. Yes this is vintage in my book and very special as my Grandmother Amah, who painted china made this for me and gave it to me when I was a child. The inscription says "Aimee - Love From Amah"

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

Simple gold hoops. I bought these at the swap meet the gentleman who sold them to me had over a Hundred the story was they came from a salesman from around the 1940's. Sadly my iPhone cannot show the detailing on the hoop that well, but they are detailed and are a little larger then a Nickle in size.

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

Today was a simple bracelet day. Another item found at the Swap Meet and is Trifari. However what I thought I would point out is the quality of the bracelet. Not only is the top side like tiny leaves.

But they also sculpted underneath. You just don't see that very often anymore.
