Empire strikes back!

What your seeing here is the Coro Empire line. My mother sent these to me for Christmas as they were part of  my Grandmother collection. Only knowing they were Coro I started the great hunt of what it was and yes there has to be earrings and I wanted to know what they looked like. Here is the set I received.

And low and behold I found pay dirt (see the ad below ) The Empire necklace shown in the top row, right side of the ad below (from the November 29, 1954 issue of Life Magazine) cost $5, and the matching earrings were also $5, plus federal tax. I can tell you now my first thought was "ohhhh I wish I could time travel at those prices."

Then I found they made in it blue.

I have yet to wear it out but I did manage to put it on, and glamor it up a bit and take some photo's.

The one that did not get finished below as my app on my iPhone kept freezing as I was trying to color in the rhinestones, so I gave up on it and was able to complete the other one you see above.

Fancy in the Box

I recently bought the following Coro set at a very low price on ebay. It's a give or take as sometimes you don't know if it will look as good in the pictures when you get it. I figured it was fancy but not so fancy I couldn't wear it to work. Well I did wear it and it looks great. I also like the fact that it came in it's original box.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day above is a Coro Pin. If you click on the pictures you can see them large.I do not have any Shamrock jewelry. So I thought, what would I wear? And here is a few I picked out which I don't own but would in a heartbeat...or in my case a bigger wallet. 

 I love the art deco look of the Crown Trifari pendant above and if your a classic, always wear black, this would offset it very well.

 I also like this Lisner necklace and pendant though I would most likely wear the brooch in my hair or maybe get some black ribbon wrap it around my wrist and wear it as a bracelet. (depending on how much it would stick up)

Love the sleek shine of the silver in the Whiting and Davis necklace, again you would need to wear a basic color. Perhaps plum.

Of course I would find a copper Matisse set I don't own it but it's lovely!

And last how about what I own which is this Austrian glass necklace and earrings. I'm not sure how long these earrings will stay on at work but very classy whoo!

The Heart Day

Ah yes the dreaded V day, where even I wonder what to get my husband. However jewelry giving has been always, excuse the pun, a given on Valentine Day's. For those with expensive taste here an Ad for Tiffany in 1966.

You can see two of the pins in this ad below. They are in the lower left hand side. 

But if your not into a heart shape you could always go with a pin that uses heart stones. Like the Coro pin seen below.

I myself will go with the following pendant and not a Pin. Yes this is vintage in my book and very special as my Grandmother Amah, who painted china made this for me and gave it to me when I was a child. The inscription says "Aimee - Love From Amah"

Cornucopia - Belated Thanksgiving Post

I'm thankful for my family, friends and the fact that I have the freedom to even post in a blog.

Ok and the abundance of food set on our table.

But what to wear on Thanksgiving I simply do not want or have a Turkey brooch. Then it hit me a Cornucopia. Next year That will be perfect. Of course the selection is quite grand and not the Hallmark pin of the 70's - 80's:



But these are nice vintage pieces:



Of course the jellybelly Coro pin is only around $950-to $1,275 on Ebay right now and the Trifari who knows but hey I still think they are pretty!

and last here is a little parting info.

What I'm Wearing Wednesday

Yey more sparkles! I got this necklace from ebay, it is vintage and by Coro. I choose black because I wear allot of black. Probably a left over of my Goth days in the 80's. But this necklace has lots of confetti in green and pink hues. So I get a little bit of color mixed in. Having just got back from camping in the desert I'm feeling pretty relaxed, my not so thrilled look is having to work on a multi tab excel form that I've been working on for several days.

All that Glitters

I'm a Gemini so it's very easy for me to pick up a new interest. It's also easy for me fall out of interest.

So here my latest and greatest interest. Another confetti piece. This one is more festive it's a cream with copper and blue speckles.

I'm very happy with this piece considering the age. The glue while yellowing does not show that badly due to the cream color. And the metal color being gold. It may look tarnished to silver in some areas, but it the camera. Only a few spots on the chain that would rest on the back of your neck have some wear to them.

Sometimes Sparkles

I don’t know about you but some days are just so hard to get out of bed. Especially when you live in sunny California and it’s not sunny out. This morning I woke up to a cool gloomy morning. As I sat thinking of this coming weeks to-do list, my eyes landed on a vintage necklace that seemed perfect. A thermoset aqua glitter necklace.

The confetti glitter in the thermoset gives enough sparkle to brighten anyone's day it certainly does mine. The blues reminding me that there is blue sky out there. And oh look! Is that the sun peeking through clouds.
